The whisky industry has lost another legend. Charles Gordon, honorary life president of William Grant & Sons and great-grandson to the company’s founder, William Grant, passed away last Monday (12/23) at the age of 86.

Charles Gordon was a pioneer of the whisky industry and served on the firm’s board for more than 50 years prior to his retirement in 2008. Known by his peers as “Charlie” or “Mr. Whisky,” Gordon helped build the family’s portfolio into one of the most successful in the industry by expanding production and supporting exports of Glenfiddich and the joys of single malt across the globe.

Charles Gordon is survived by his wife Francesca, three sons from his first marriage to Louise, and nine grandchildren. His son Glenn Grant Gordon was appointed the chairman of William Grant & Sons mid last year.
